32.2 billion euros is the annual production of medicines in Italy worth, while the German one is 30 billion euros worth. It means that Italy has become the leading producer of drugs in Europe. In addition to being producers, Italians are also big consumers: on average every Italian takes 1.7 doses of medicines a day. The region with the highest consumption is Emilia-Romagna, with 317.6 doses per day per 1000 inhabitants; the one with the lowest consumption is Lombardy with 98.2 doses per day per 1000 inhabitants. The most requested drugs are those for cardiovascular problems, for the gastrointestinal system and for metabolism.
